History
Before joining Weinhardt & Lantz, Avery clerked for the Honorable Jonathan A. Kobes of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. There, she sharpened her writing skills and handled matters in civil and criminal law.
Prior to working on the Eighth Circuit, Avery attended Northwestern Pritzker School of Law, where she was the President of the law school’s Federalist Society chapter and served as an Articles Editor for the Northwestern University Law Review. While in law school, she was an intern at the Iowa Attorney General’s office. In that role, she researched and drafted briefs for the Iowa Supreme Court and Iowa Court of Appeals. Avery also worked as a summer associate at Brown Winick in Des Moines and White and Case in Chicago.
Avery is originally from Keokuk, Iowa. She moved to Des Moines to attend Drake University. At Drake, Avery received the Truman Award for Outstanding Student of the Year and the Law, Politics, and Society Paper of the Year Award.
