Weinhardt & Lantz has one of Iowa’s few truly specialist appellate practices, handling or collaborating on numerous appeals of cases litigated below by other firms, as well as cases tried by Weinhardt & Lantz. For example, the Firm has been retained following most of the recent Iowa jury verdicts over $10 million. The firm also provides public or confidential assistance on complex legal issues in trials or outside of litigation.
The Firm focuses on cases before the Iowa Supreme Court, the Iowa Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. It has strong relationships and institutional knowledge in all of those courts.
Nearly all of the Firm’s lawyers have personally argued high-stakes appeals and they have collectively clerked for nine different federal judges. The team includes a professor of appellate advocacy, a former Assistant Iowa Solicitor General, two former Assistant United States Attorneys, and a former Assistant Federal Public Defender. The Firm has comprehensive experience in public-law appeals, including in constitutional, criminal, and administrative/regulatory law.
